Prepare for a season of enigmas, emotions, evolutions and art that moves.
As both artists and athletes, Citie Ballet is determined to push boundaries. Edmonton audiences will experience a variety of performances including new styles of choreography and a re-staging of great classical works. Each program will endeavour to inspire the audiences’ imaginations, capture their hearts and showcase the depths of ballet in the 21st Century.
After touring the globe with Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet and choreographing for major companies in North America, Citie Ballet Artistic Director, Jorden Morris, is both happy and grateful to be directing a company back in his home province of Alberta. “Contributing to the artistic growth of our country and its young artists has always been of great importance to me, and Citie Ballet allows me the opportunity to make this happen. This season will be full of new energy, new works and artists eager to take the stage for our Edmonton audience,” says Morris.
Featuring Leonard Cohen’s Doorway and Mozart:42
Created by Citie Ballet’s Artistic Director, Jorden Morris, Leonard Cohen’s Doorway explores the relationships between those we choose to love, the relationships that fail and how our passions can stand test of time. The music includes pieces by Cris Williamson, Sharon Robinson, Adam Cohen and, of course, Leonard Cohen. The performance also features Edmonton’s own, critically acclaimed musicians: Andrea House on vocals and jazz pianist, Chris Andrew.
Inspired by Mozart’s 42nd Symphony, Morris choreographs a few modern twists to this classical masterpiece. Mozart:42 sets the pace for the season, combining innovative contemporary works with a strong foundation in classical ballet.

Featuring pas de deuxs from Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Cyrano and Love Articulated, a new performance by Citie Ballet.
What is love? Emotion will leave the audience asking the question, only to find the answer in their own hearts.
Witness an affair between two young lovers in Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet’s famous balcony scene. Then the evening takes a modern twist. Follow another pair of star-crossed lovers to a bridge overlooking the Eiffel Tower in a scene from Moulin Rouge: The Ballet. The third pas de deux, Cyrano, hits the inevitable doubts we have about love right on the nose. The night ends with Love Articulated, a new performance by Citie Ballet’s own dancer/choreographer, Kiera Keglowitsch.

Featuring Tierra and brand new performances by two emerging young Canadian choreographers.
The season ends with the coming of spring, and a new performance by Citie Ballet’s Artistic Director, Jorden Morris. Tierra demonstrates organic and earthly movements that are both grounded and deep rooted, reflecting on how dance and the creativity of the human spirit continue to evolve as the seasons change.
Evolution also allows dancers to spread their wings and evolve by choreographing their own works. Edmonton audiences will see their own resident ballet company awaken and take on a new life as Citie Ballet ends their season on a high note.
